2008 Beijing Olympic Games
No dogs or foreigners?Posted by Jeremy Goldkorn, June 13, 2008 11:09 AM
CNN recently published an article about the rules for foreigners during the Olympics that have been widely discussed in the English language media and blogs recently. The story includes a photo of a new looking sign somewhere in Beijing, forbidding foreigners from entering. There used to be signs like this in many places in Beijing, usually around military bases and other 'sensitive' buildings. Many of the old signs were in English and Russian, but this new one is only English and Chinese. Do any Danwei readers know the location of this sign? Thanks to Go Too Far East for the link. Comments on No dogs or foreigners?
According to this blog the sign's on Badachu Road in Shijingshan, about 100 meters from a military area. It seems to have been put up at the end of last year.
Given the trees and faux-50s classic architecture, looks like something going up on Beichang Jie, or Bei Chizi. Got my L visa overseas today; piece of cake. Show an airplane ticket, a place to stay (hotel reservations or a friend's/relative's home registration), and an email invite from said friend/relative, and voila. Having queued with Chinese friends at 2am outside a western consulate in Beijing, waiting to be judged for a visa, all is fair in the lucrative border control industry. Makes you appreciate the EU all the more . . .
cat:
If it's around Badachu Road, it's just a new version of the old signs that used to be all over that area.
