Recently more and more ads for multinational brands have been appearing in The People's Daily: Cisco, GM and Airbus being a few of the more prominent. On the other hand People's Daily advertorials, not always clearly marked as such, are usually placed by state-owned enterprises. Last week however, cosmetics brand Mary Kay had a prominent advertorial in the Communist Party organ: The headline is "Mary Kay - Dreams & Persitance", but the content and writing style looks like blurb for a state-owned enterprise. The text talks about Mary Kay's history, products and development in China. It makes no mention of this part of the Mary Kay philosophy: "For more than 40 years, the Company has applied Mary Kay’s philosophy of God first, family second and career third, and stayed true to the Golden Rule way of conducting business."
