Obama events in China this weekPosted by Jeremy Goldkorn on Monday, June 16, 2008 at 2:41 PM
On November 2, 2004, John Kerry conceded the U.S. presidential election, giving George W. Bush another four years in office. The wails and cries of American Democratic Party supporters in Beijing filled the air. At the time, Danwei tried to give them some succor by pointing out the following:
Danwei does not endorse political candidates, and if you read the entire text in the Danwei article linked above, you may find it's not the kind of praise useful to American politicians, but since we were somehow on the Obama bandwagon rather early on, we feel it's appropriate to publish the following announcement from Americans in China for Obama:

Classic Danwei posts
+ Korean history doesn't fly on Chinese TV screens (2007.09): SARFT puts the kibbosh on Korean historical dramas. + Religion and government in an uneasy mix (2008.03): Phoenix Weekly (凤凰周刊) article from October, 2007, on government influence on religious practice in Tibet. + David Moser on Mao impersonators (2004.10): I first became aware of this phenomenon in 1992 when I turned on a Beijing TV variety show and was jolted by the sight of "Mao Zedong" and "Zhou Enlai" playing a game of ping pong. They both gave short, rousing speeches, and then were reverently interviewed by the emcee, who thanked them profusely for taking time off from their governmental duties to appear on the show.

Great article. Henceforth, I will come to Danwei.org for all my political editorial needs. Thanks very much!
Advertising a closed event on Danwei?
i like obama, but i don't like Ivo Daalder. he's one of those righteous liberals who believe too much in interference.
Thank you for the information, but could you double check the number Contact: Ben Johnson +86 13691376931. I cannot get it through.
@Y.K. This is Ben Johnson. That number is incorrect. If you are interested in the event please call +86 13761369731. Sorry for the confusion

They will be crying again in November when McCain wins. Obama is hype...McCain is a hero.
Danwei doesn't support candidates? Good because you can't vote either since you aren't American.
Obama sucks. He would ruin the economy much worse than it is now. McCain is the man. Deal with it Danwei.
Sgt. Slaughter, I, and many others like me, will vote Obama and put you out of a job.
McCain is a genuine war hero, but his 'experience' is not of the military leadership kind. So says Gen. Wesley Clark, and so say the many generals and admirals who support Obama. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdN8XpL36Pk
And so say Democratic Senator Jim Webb and Republican Sentaor Chuck Hagel who know what it was like to be combat troops. They respect McCain but do not want him to be CIC. Obama is better qualified -- on judgement, on quality of mind. And on compassion.
First of all its ridiculous to question any man's heroism that went to war. It's also a mistake to question his leadership ability. It was wrong to question Mr. Kerry's contribution as it is very very wrong to question Mr. McCain's. He didn't have the chance to be a leader in Vietnam because he was tortured during most of his time there. Since he left there he has been nothing but a great leader in his years of service.

That's right because if you and your ill-informed buddies vote for Obama then the economy will go so far down the crapper that we will all be unemployed.

How the hell can you say that? You are so naive. So he can act. McCain is a realist. F compassion. How is compassion going to help the USA when everyone wants to destroy us. They don't hate us just because of recent events. People have always hated us since the beginning because or our independent thinking and ability to do anything we set our mind to do. Everyone is jealous of us. This is not America's problem and being compassionate was Gandhi's business. Obama is no Gandhi.
Quality of mind? What the hell does that mean? Are you saying something like Obama's brain gets better gas mileage than McCain's? There is a reason why McCain is so old. Its because his mind is as solid as ever...and it probably runs on steam.
Go ahead and waste your vote on Obama. Hopefully that comforts you when you are jobless.
