Chinese hackers attack McDonald's websitePosted by Jeremy Goldkorn, December 28, 2004 10:49 AM
Yesterday's Beijing News reports that hackers apparently defaced McDonald's corporate website on Christmas because it had both Taiwan and Hong Kong listed alongside other nations in a "Country" pull-down menu. Under a red heading reading (in English), "Chinese Hacker" was the Chinese text: "We oppose the McDonald's management listing Taiwan as a country. Taiwan is an inseparable part of China. Any attempt to separate Taiwan from China and any wild ideas of blocking the cross-straits unification are bound to be demolished!! We have only one China!!!" McDonalds management, while cleaning up the defacement, has apparently changed their terminology to "Country/Market". Compare the current site with the site from February on the Internet Archive here. - by zhwj UPDATE: The China Daily has an article about the hack together with a screen shot ofn the hacked site here. |
