Books on China
Tales of Old Hong Kong: The new Tales of Old Hong Kong compiled by Derek Sandhaus is available at Earnshaw Books.
Diamond Hill by Feng Chi-shun: Feng's memoir Diamond Hill describes an era of gambling and gangsters, Suzie Wong and squatter villages, fires and food stalls, and the Kowloon Walled City and its white powder. "A time when people were poor, but life was rich," he says. The world that he grew up in no longer exists, but his book - the first ever on the Diamond Hill refugee settlement, in either Chinese or English - offers a candid picture of what life was like for most Hong Kong residents in the 1950s.
William A. Callahan's China: The Pessoptimist Nation: China: The Pessoptimist Nation shows how the heart of Chinese foreign policy is not a security dilemma, but an identity dilemma. Through a careful analysis of how Chinese people understand their new place in the world, the book charts how Chinese identity emerges through the interplay of positive and negative feelings in a dynamic that intertwines China's domestic and international politics.

+ Lost in Beijing finally gets killed (2008.01): SARFT (广电总局) brings down the hammer on Lost in Beijing (苹果), one year after its offense. + People: Tina Liu (2004.09): Tina Liu is Hong Kong's most prominent image stylist, but her mercurial career has involved her in almost every aspect of Hong Kong's media world. + Asimov Published, Interviewed in Beijing (2005.03): Cover story from this week's Book Review section of The Beijing News announces the publication of a Chinese translation of Isaac Asimov's complete Foundation series. Yup, the Beijing News has scored a fictional interview with "I, Asimov". They've been taking similar liberties recently in their entertainment sections, captioning photographs of celebrities with made-up quotes.

Comments on Chinese hackers on blogs and CNN
Chinese hackers coming back! Most are rumors I think.
So,the blog dedicated to news about Chinese hackers can not be found in Qinhuangdao(秦皇岛),CNC providing the internet-service
.
But does Chinese hackers have that ability to
“access to the world's most sensitive sites, including the Pentagon”?
The first computer was born in the US and the basic language of PC is English. With America'S
genius,of good and evil, the English-speak hackers can overgo all the PCs in the world.
My god !Be careful MY notebook.
If its on CNN then it must be true....
This story is ridiculous on so many levels, I cannot believe the editors let it pass.
If it were true, then I find it fantastic that CNN is willing to just let US security be sold for a page 4 story.
It is like 2004 all over again, only the US public needs another reason to vote.

I agree with the above poster, this is much ado about nothing. In one sense, these guys are probably just script kiddies hacking web-sites. The article is skimp on details, I mean what exactly did they hack in the Pentagon? If they just hacked the Websites then what is the big deal? I mean sure, if they hacked a website to get a some crap then who cares. I really doubt they hacked something that is really designed to be secure. Maybe I'm just naive, I would think the pentagon is pretty damn secure if needed. The crap they hacked probably involves non-technical people with none classified data.
If they are so smart why not hack banks, and get money? Why not hack black U.S programs to steal top secret info? The U.S be fuc*ed if they did that.
And if the U.S don't do the same to China, then U.S deserves whatever they gonna get. Which brings me back to the point that the U.S probably have their sh*ite together, at least on the important stuff. Which means it's just typical election year fear mongering. Not saying these fear mongering have no basis, they do have something basis, it's just mostly it's all bullshit.
Hell, I'm not really surprised. I've worked with U.S government peeps on the tech side. The weakest link is the clueless users. You can't help that, unless you get rid of them all, which is not going to happen.
Plus the fact computers software are just too damn complicated to error free. You are always going to find faults, no matter how well engineered something claims to be.
So perhaps, these Chinese hackers are the shit, and hit the jackpot!!!
What an article of propaganda!!!
I especially like this comment:
"CNN has no way to independently confirm if that is true."
If you can confirm it, then don't write it.
When do we read on CNN an article on U.S. hackers sponsored by the U.S. regime to hack into Chinese websites?
It is CNN, so it is not true.
