Fred Phelps vs. ChinaPosted by Jeremy Goldkorn on Friday, September 21, 2007 at 10:48 AM
Fred Waldron Phelps, Sr. is a crazy Baptist preacher from Kansas. His church has less than 100 members, mostly his blood relatives.
They are all obsessively homophobic, and are well known in the U.S. for slogans such as "God hates fags" and "Thank God for 9/11". They also run a website at GodHatesAmerica.com and GodHatesSweden.com. They enjoy picketing military funerals where they make the point that U.S. soldiers are doomed and cursed because America is so gay. Somehow, one of Phelps' daughters stumbled upon China Daily columnist Raymond Zhou's opinion pieces in which he examines apparently homophobic statements by actor Sun Haiying. Soon after, Shirley L Phelps-Roper left a comment on Zhou's blog that includes the following: Dear Raymond Never mind WTO, the Olympics etc., attracting the ire of the mad Phelps clan is a true sign of China's emergence onto the world stage. However, GodHatesChina.com does not seem to work yet. UPDATE: Raymond Zhou corrects us: Ms Phelps did not leave a comment on his blog; the text reproduced above is from an email that she wrote to him, one of more than one hundred he received from outside China, most of which sided with Sun Haiying. + Korean history doesn't fly on Chinese TV screens (2007.09): SARFT puts the kibbosh on Korean historical dramas. + Religion and government in an uneasy mix (2008.03): Phoenix Weekly (凤凰周刊) article from October, 2007, on government influence on religious practice in Tibet. + David Moser on Mao impersonators (2004.10): I first became aware of this phenomenon in 1992 when I turned on a Beijing TV variety show and was jolted by the sight of "Mao Zedong" and "Zhou Enlai" playing a game of ping pong. They both gave short, rousing speeches, and then were reverently interviewed by the emcee, who thanked them profusely for taking time off from their governmental duties to appear on the show.

Comments on Fred Phelps vs. China
This is why you shouldn't inbreed.
Someone should invite them to come spread their message at the Olympics.
I have a highlighter on my desk. It's been there for months and months. Just a small, rounded, non-assuming highlighter.
It wasn't until this moment that I had ever considered smacking it into my forehead until the stupidity of Phelps and his brood was forgotten.
Ahhh, the demonic whelp phelp's.
Its dicks like them that cause people to turn from religion (like christianity) because of their perverse slanders.
They make 'god' seem like a psychopathic, insane, murderous, megalomaniacal dictator.
Ooohh, I do hope the WBC does go to Beijing to harass the olympics....THEN, they'll get arrested and executed for insulting China. Plus China doesnt have the same 'freedom of speech' laws as the US does.
Hell, neither does Australia (where I live)...I was really dissapointed these nutters didnt come to Perth to protest Heath Ledgers funeral....Because if they did....they'd NEVER leave. I was planning to Ambush them along with 400 or so buddies from my Kick-Boxing club and I'd rile up the locals and bikie gangs and we'd beat the WBC to DEATH!
I was planning to kill fred myself
God I hope they don't go, they could start an international war.
