Danwei redesign and RSS feedsPosted by Jeremy Goldkorn, April 27, 2007 1:18 PM
Danwei quietly launched its new design last weekend. We are still tweaking it and would appreciate any reader feedback by email or in the comments section. The new top bar is designed to give you a quick overview of what we consider the most interesting current stories about China in English, and to highlight noteworthy Danwei posts. The latest Danwei TV episode is also showcased in the top bar. Below the bar, it's business as usual. There are now three RSS feeds for Danwei: • Main Danwei blog column |

Princess Der Ling: Two Years in the Forbidden City: Two years in the Forbidden City is largely a reminiscence of the minutiae of life for one of history's most powerful women, by one of her court attendants, a Manchu noble's daughter by the name of Der Ling.
Carl Crow's The Long Road Back to China: In 1939 Carl Crow - an American journalist, advertising executive and author who had lived in Shanghai for 25 years until forced out by the Japanese - travelled up the Burma Road from Rangoon to Chongqing on assignment for Liberty magazine - 'the most interesting assignment I have ever been given'.

Comments on Danwei redesign and RSS feeds
nice but i don't like the writing on top of the danwei tv image, seems messy
i've to get use to it, no bad if is not too mess, i like simple stuff.
but, where are all the other links, like oneaday.org?
i hope just under construction. don't delete them.
make the corners of the boxes rounded, e.g. the top box should have round corners, and then a little empty space between it and the blog column below.
The top still seems kind of crowded, and I would move that main link on the top to the links page, it appears as its a danwei original story. Maybe round out some of the edges. I understand you guys all have day jobs, so it doesn't need to be perfect.
Agree with cc. The danwei logo would look better if on the very top of the page.
Q: is the current RSS feed gonna be valid for a while?
Hi Danwai Team,
I did like your simple style and the posts in the middle. But showing the latest TV clips on top is an improvement. So I always know if I have seen it already or not.
What I totally do not like is the ad banner (SAS) on top.
zoo: The RSS feeds listed in this post are the definitive feeds: we will not change them as long as Feedburner (the service they are run through) continues to work well.
There are some other old feeds that we will discontinue.
It works, it does the job.
What you want? A super model bomb shell of a website...?
I'm happy...
I suppose the new front page thingy at the top-left is good for "head line" purposes, but is it really that useful since the head line can become stale after days under invariant observation? I guess. It's the head lines, it suppose to attract attention at some article you deem to be worthy of the headline spot. It does it's job, whatever.
The video thingy at the top is nice.
The web links to off site content is nice too.
Hey, nice all around look guys. The only thing I would suggest is a bit of hover effect on the sidebar links. It doesn't have to be too flash... but the stoic refusal to change in anyway, other than a cursor change, confuses my sense that they're links.
The front page looks nice.
Hey I thought perhaps you can do a rotate headline thing with the headline part. You know, have the headlines section scroll through several different headlines, each with it's own picture.
But really it's fine now, just a suggestion.
the site looks lees like a blog and is going to look like a more conventional news site. It is good to see that it will reduce the number of columns and use a more simple grid.
Thanks Danwei !
I liked the thinner format better, and agree the top looks a little cluttered or busy.
