 Yesterday morning, as I was cruising along in a taxi, FM87.6 Beijing Arts Radio (北京文艺广播) reminded me that it was time to make this post. They had a mirage of voices who all claimed that they will shut down the electricity in their shops, their homes or their bar for one hour on Saturday March 28th, starting at 8:30pm. But as this is blocked too, here is a video on Tudou explaining what Earth Hour is about: Earth hour is getting more publicity as Saturday draws near. Its spokesperson, actress Li Bingbing (李冰冰) appears on the cover of the current issue of Time Out Chinese, holding an energy-saving lightbulb and inside, an interview about how she conserves energy. |

why not schedule earth hour at 3 a.m. on Monday?

I had said to Scott Sykes, who runs the blog 36PR, that I would use his interview with an organiser of the event as Earth Hour drew near. We were saving it, and now this happened... Sorry to inconvenience all of you not surfing freely.
Cool initiative, but keep hearing from various energy companies, that it might cause massive chaos on the networks (black-outs). According to them, the networks cannot handle sudden (and potentially pretty massive) drops/spikes. Of course, one should note, that they're also the ones, that lose income.

A few friends and I hit the road last year on a 50-state road trip. Found ourselves in DC last year hoping for some Earth Hour goodness at the US Capitol, but we didn't get much. So we decided to make some of our own...link

no no no...not a good idea...can't these people stop showing?? That makes me sick!I bet I saved more energy than any of the "stars"....God! Some one who really wants to save the earth plz go talk to leaders to compromise on Tyoto Protocol....
To make a real difference, it would be useful to shut down the slaughterhouses too.
Not for an hour, though, but forever.
Or, to illuminate the darkness therein.
I think it's good to try to organize awareness worldwide about energy issues.
But we are eating the planet into oblivion and energy-conservation awareness won't matter at all as long we continue to exploit hundreds of billions of sentient beings a year, on land and sea, wreck the environment and STILL fail to feed a billion of our poorest fellow humans.
The robot says: Go vegan.
