As all I know, originally, GeGe (格格)'s meaning comes from some titles of Princess in Qing dynasty, what's about the 'chick'?

Why do you use masculine pronouns (he, him) when it's clear that Fenghuang Gege identifies as a woman? It reminds me that not too long ago, I read a China Daily article about a male-to-female transsexual who had already undergone the operation, but the article still continually referred to her as a "him." I find that treatment demeaning to Gege's struggle, as if no matter how hard she wishes otherwise, she will never be more than a man dressed in women's clothing.

Thanks Nick, 'princess' is better, text amended.

yeah. Ge Ge means are what Ching princess are called. Example: Huan Zhu Ge Ge.

She wants to be a "princess." So I guess it makes sense she call herself Ge Ge.

This is the same transsexual featured in one of Shanghaiist's earlier stories.

And yes, if she identifies herself as female, please refer to her as a SHE.
