A city in the clouds

Wuhan Evening News
December 4, 2009

Fog shut down the city of Wuhan yesterday morning. Expressways connecting the city to the outside world were shut down, some for as long as nine hours.

Yesterday's fog was the heaviest out of three days' worth of misty mornings and created some stunning cityscapes that were captured by Wuhan Evening News photographers.

Here's a selection, beginning with a front-page photo that resembles a traditional landscape painting:

The Changjiang Daily, a sister paper to the Wuhan Evening News, published its own gallery of images. Here's the unearthly photo that ran on the front page:

The only one to me is the park one. The others I just feel they should be blowing up somehow.

I wanted to say beautiful, but on second thought, no, this is just eerie.

This is my home city. I have never seen it in such fog or smog. in fact it looks horrible to me. hope it will clear up.

Dallas was the opposite this morning - link

Does anyone know how to get better quality photos? I cannot speak Chinese :\

The newspaper does not seem to provide higher-quality photos, and I didn't find any other galleries during the brief search I performed while doing this write-up. Sorry.

it's just smog
