China's process of understanding leads to lifting of AIDS banPosted by Banyue, November 13, 2007 3:47 PM
The top headline in The Beijing News today announces that China plans to lift a ban on foreigners with HIV/AIDS entering the country. Mao Qun'an, spokesman for the Ministry of Health, said that the current law is being revised, but he did not reveal when those revisions would take effect (more info at China Daily). The front page shows people crowding around a real estate office to learn how to submit applications for affordable housing. Other headlines: • Line 6 of the Beijing subway system is set to begin construction this year. According to the article, should the proposal be approved, the new line from Mentougou to Tongzhou will become the longest in Beijing; • Fireworks for the Spring Festival will be available for sale on February 1st, 2008; • A feature report about an outlaw's rural family background. The outlaw persuaded nine villagers to leave their homes and commit burglaries with him. |

Comments on China's process of understanding leads to lifting of AIDS ban
I thought foreigners with aids were only banned from getting long term (1 year plus) work visas, rather than being totally banned from entering the country as the front page implies. Anyone know?
Where does the 'process of understanding' come from? Is that Banyue's own headline?
Xiao Zhu: It comes from the article, where Mao Qun'an was quoted as saying "对艾滋病的认识有一个过程"; the CD article says something similar.
Okay, well that seems interesting.
