Police killer Yang Jia executedPosted by Eric Mu, November 26, 2008 1:44 PM
Today's New Culture View reports that the People's Supreme Court approved the death sentence of Yang Jia, the man who murdered six policemen and wounded three others and a security guard on July 1 this year. The execution was ordered to be carried out within seven days of the Court's approval. Follow-up reports from other sources confirm that Yang was executed earlier today. Also: Guan Guoliang, former chairman of New China Insurance, stood trial yesterday for embezzlement in Beijing's Second Intermediate People's Court yesterday. The court hasn't made its decision yet. An investigation into Guan's embezzlement case launched by China Insurance Regulatory Commission shows that Guan had embezzled a total of 13 billion yuan from New China Insurance during his eight years tenure, with most of the funds being used to acquire company shares and for other unauthorized investments. Guan was sacked last December and prosecuted this October. Links and Sources

The paper was purchased on the Beijing subway for two yuan, which is relatively expensive, as most of the city's daily newspapers cost only half a yuan.

Comments on Police killer Yang Jia executed
Have an sites or papers or net hangouts discussed this in terms of the death penalty itself?
IE, a lot of people around the world - and all of the EU member countries follow this notion that capital punishment is wrong. Universal Declaration of Human Rights etc.
I'm interested to know if this story has generated any discussion in the media along those lines, or if it's permitted in mainstream discourse at all.
