Yangtse Evening Post
January 14, 2008

The front photo of today's Yangtse Evening Post shows a girl playing in the snow in Nanjing. Yesterday, most of Jiangsu Province met with its first snowfall of the winter. The article predicts that wet, snowy weather will continue for another two days.

The paper's top headline announces that provincial government will provide subsidies to low-income residents in an attempt to reduce the effects of rising prices. More than one million people across the province will qualify.

Other headlines:

• Five cities in Jiangsu Province elected new local government leaders and People's Congress representatives;

• Former CCTV host Huang Jianxiang left Phoenix TV for Hunan TV. His new contract is worth more than a million yuan, says the article;

• Al Qaeda was almost successful in assassinating the Queen of England when she visited Uganda last November.
