Illegal price hikes on instant noodles

Front Page of the Day is a daily review of the news on the front page of one Chinese newspaper, selected from a newsstand in Beijing's central business district.

Beijing Youth Daily
August 17, 2007
The top headline of today's Beijing Youth Daily announces that instant noodle price hikes were illegally fixed by the China branch of the International Ramen Manufacturers Association. The National Development and Reform Commission issued a notice on its official website and urged the association to correct its mistakes. (link to NDRC document)

The front page photo shows a virtual-reality movie experience that's the newest attraction in Happy Valley, an amusement park in Chaoyang District, Beijing.

The second headline notes that today is the first day of a four-day traffic control project. Only cars with odd-numbered plates are allowed on city roads today; violators face a 100-yuan fine.
