Comments on Anti-CNN, by the people and for the people
To Jeremy:
Qin Gang, Spokesman of the the Foreign Ministry said that the anti-CNN. com website was not funded by China government. Instead, it was a spontaneous condemnation by the people of the Western media.
After reading those words above, I was surprised so logged on Xinhua.net to check if Qin Gang really had said the anti-CNN was a spontaneous condemation by THE PEOPLE OF THE WESTERN MEDIA. I think as a national spokesperson, Qingang wouldn't say such things which was not confirmed. Not out of my guess, according to Xinhua's report, Qingang said it was from folk chinese people.
I think Danwei is irresponsible too to release such news-editing without checking the printed news. What do you think of it, Jeremy?
No misinformation was intended, C, though the sentence in question is a little ambiguous. It was meant to be interpreted as "a spontaneous condemnation of the Western media by the people [of China]," which is the gist of what the spokesperson said.
western media bias is indeed a problem, because most of it assumes that the chinese government is acting only to repress tibetans. they are not as objective as they should be. i think the NYT and CNN in particular have failed to do enough heavy lifting. but considering the state of their DOMESTIC reporting in the US, it is hardly surprising.
while i think a change in china's policy on tibet is in order, distorting the news with 'might as well be true' journalism DOES. NOT. HELP.
sorry for repeating myself, i said something similar on another thread. but i really don't see this getting enough attention.
Mr Qin also pointed out that the Western media are responsible for the problem because of their irresponsible, unethical and distorted coverage on Tibet.
============================
I do not understand how the editors of this forum can let stand the stream of abuse by yas; it advances no argument, it presents no information, just two lines of ridicule.
Foreigner:
We published that comment by YAS by mistake. We agree that it adds nothing to the discussion. Being a civilized Danwei, we have harmonized the comment.
I can read in both Chinese and English, but it is not as well as I can read in Vietnamese. I am a native born Chinese Vietnamese. So were my parents and grandmother. We were the third generation settler in Vietnam and always considered ourselves as Vietnamese Chinese ethnic minority in both so call economic and cultural influence immigrants. Hopefully from now on, if we are not being refused the right to stay like we experienced in Vietnam, the fourth generation will start in the United States. Like American, Canadian, Australian and Israeli granted their rights to stay at where they were resettled; the ethnic Chinese around the world certainly hope that they could also obtain the same.
I watch CNN, BBC and other creditable western media. I trusted their reports and trusted their human rights propagandas. I also compared and used my judgments between bias and extremeness to recognize the facts which is not excluded Red Chinese Daily news. The Tibet incidents are ironic evidence of violent rioting, looting and destroying by the protestors. The Chinese victims as claimed by the Chinese Government were killed and hurt by the Tibetans are the people just like I am who just wanting to settle down in a place called “home.” They just try to grant the survival rights like any other Tibetan does in Tibet. Moreover, Tibetan protestors should think of how their ancestors set foot in Tibet at the first place? If these incidents were so call by some western media as a revolution of Tibetan against Chinese rules, so how should history calls the native Indian attacked the pioneers in the Wild West in the 18 century? How can we explain and interpret in the Sudan Darfur incident? How can we explain the policy of Israeli and Palestinian conflict?
I don’t know and don’t even care what the motives of these bias news reporting are. One thing I know for sure is; I have to be careful from now on to read those discreditable news media.
to大门牙:
"If these incidents were so call by some western media as a revolution of Tibetan against Chinese rules, so how should history calls the native Indian attacked the pioneers in the Wild West in the 18 century? How can we explain and interpret in the Sudan Darfur incident? How can we explain the policy of Israeli and Palestinian conflict?"---RYAN
You call yourself Vietnamese, yet your name is clearly that of an Irishmen. Are we related?
The Native American attacks against the pioneers or pilgrim folks in the U.S. was 1.) a different time without the modern day sensibilities, 2.)In the U.S. the Native American Indians have preserves protected by U.S. law and these lands are under Native American jurisdiction to do as they see fit. Sure my ancestors ravaged the Natives but as you call it the "Wild West" this is what the name of the game was at the time. Both sides new the rules...one was just more well equipped. That's the morals of that time.
With the various checks and balances in place around the world today this mantra is not widely accepted enough to be called, "the way it is".
The situation in Darfur can be interpreted the same way the issue in the southwest of this country is interpreted. There is nothing whatsoever to do with culture, or unity, or any of that nonsense. It's all about resources. Aside from natural resources used for energy, there are a lot of potential tourism dollars at stake. That's it. The one side may want to preserve its culture, but the "ruling power's" side wants to make money.
The bias of the reports is directly related to sponsors, advertisers and those involved in operations and their beliefs. If you look at CNN international out of Hong Kong and CNN out of Atlanta they are two different channels. CNN in Atlanta is---dare I said it---very anti-U.S. along with NBC, CBS, and ABC. CNN international is much kinder to the U.S. The only "pro" U.S. on most things is FOX. Even FOX has it's moments of anti-establishment leaning bias.
It's a very complex issue BUT can be simplified by looking at the direct correlation of business and the media. So stop debating hogwash.
Dude, I wish these channels would protest against Australia...
I live in China, and sorry for my poor English.
but I want to say that the west peaple is pride and prejudice, alias to China. When you they know something about China, their first think is that China is bad and wrong.
In China, I always see that the ethnic minorities are supported and protected more by the govement than us, the Han peaple. I accept it.
for Excample, in order to read a university, their scores is 20 scores lower than us.
Though China still has some problems, but it is better day and day. I see the process in all my life of 30 years. Through the internet, I see that the west people know little about today of us, and China. They only blame us because they are developped, but they forget that how can developped. Nothing can be gained from begin, and only has to be gained step by step.
Is western media giving the victims of the riot a fair shake?
I challange anyone to prove me wrong. The self-appointed expat "China expert" bloggers aren't covering it, CNN certainly isn't.
Anti-CNN is the only place I can find reports of those victims, and opinions giving these poor souls a little justice:

Above is a photo of a road side memorial of a girl name Yang Dongmei from Sichuan province. She was burned to death when the mob torched the clothing shop she worked at.
She was 24 years old. Report that CNN.
I support the guys of anti-cnn's, and shame on cnn's liars.
charles - is anti-CNN (or any chinese media?)giving coverage to the monks round up and arrested before the riots? how about those who were killed in recent days in Sichuan? Kind of runs both ways doesn't it. Or do we only care about dead Hans?
For each side the pro/anti government stance is that the other side is just collateral damage or means to achieve its end. It's totally messed up but that's why the uneven covered. That and business
aahhh, wat can i say? damn u fucktards who support tibetan riots.
"this is what the name of the game was at the time. Both sides new the rules...one was just more well equipped"
So you are saying who ever got the guns who wins, right? So Tibet will never be free because we, the Chinese, are better equipped.
Oh my God, I am in the US and I cannot get into any of those websites that is anti-cnn. Are they blocking the information from us like they say the Chinese government does? So there is no one is better than the other after all.
Happened to read in yahoo that Dalai Lama expected pro-china protest during his trip to US, but found all are peaceful. Why? do Chinese needs to also brush up a bit in organizing protests both in action and on paper. Of course, you have to be careful, they may be terrorist.
However, I believe in God, the true God. Chinese needs to find wisdom in the bible. Dalai Lama with his religion is not from the true God. Unless he changes to believe in the God described in the bible. If both sides willing to find wisdom from the bible, things will be very different.
However, I am a chinese, so I am pro-China.
western medias always find some way or the other to put China in negative role.I am overseas chinese and I do watch western media news like CNN.As i found out that this media gives wrong information and fabricated the news,i really feel disappointed and betrayed.Recently CNN Jack Cafferty's remarks which insulted chinese not only in China but chinese people around the world. His remark is completely unprofessional in Journalist field.
Hi!
I think this text is interesting for "all sides":

"Anti-CNN says: "We Just Want the Truth!"
This article is so stupid. The writer tries to be neutral, but he is actually rattlebrained and simple minded. He is just too naive to discern even simple lie or truth.
