Front Page of the Day is a daily review of the news on the front page of one Chinese newspaper, selected from a newsstand in Beijing's central business district.

The Mirror is the Beijing Youth Daily Group's counterpart to the Beijing Evening News.

Today's headline concerns a pledge ceremony held yesterday in anticipation of the 2008 Olympic Games. Speaking at the ceremony, party chief Liu Qi called on every Beijing citizen to mobilize and enthusiastically prepare for the event.

The second headline announces upcoming sanitation standards for Beijing's central air conditioning systems, to take effect on 1 August.

The front page photo shows an investor smiling at a new record high for Chinese stocks. The Shanghai Composite Index reached a high of 4,357.80 during trading, topping the previous high of 4,335.96 set on May 29.
