Pop singer Man Wenjun arrested - drug bust at Coco BananaPosted by Eric Mu on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at 4:09 PM
The public image of pop singer Man Wenjun is that of a responsible man whose name is generally associated with charity work. He's most famous for the sappy 1997 song "Understanding You" (懂你), and his career has been unmarred by scandal. Yesterday, however, he was arrested for drug use during a raid on Coco Banana, a nighclub located outside the west gate of the Workers' Stadium. The photo on the front page of the Beijing Times shows the nightclub, which has been ordered to suspend operation. According to an eyewitness, the police raided the nightclub yesterday morning around two o'clock. About ten people were taken away, the 40-year-old Man among them. Police confirmed Man's arrest to the newspaper. An anonymous source was quoted as saying that Man and his wife were celebrating her birthday at the nightclub with some friends. The article does not provide any information about the type of drug Man and his friends were using, or what punishment they might receive. Song Ke, CEO of Taihe Rye Music, Man's record label, expressed his shock at the news, as did an official from a charity foundation dedicated to children suffering from brain paralysis, which has Man as an ambassador. In the latest flu news, the bottom of the front page reports that an Italian woman suspected of being infected with Influenza A(H1N1) put under quarantine at a hospital in Zham, Tibet, where she was touring. So far there have been a total of four confirmed cases of the flu in Mainland China. Links and Sources

They both gave short, rousing speeches, and then were reverently interviewed by the emcee, who thanked them profusely for taking time off from their governmental duties to appear on the show.

Men become corrupt when they are rich.Man Wenjun is not a good guy by all standards. Labor camp will be a good place for him over the next decade.
nonymous - nice lyric, wrong district.
No one gets busted or goes down in China unless there is some outside motivation. Especially for such a trivial matter as drug use.
Wonder what he *really* did or who he pissed off...
