Stock slides as CPPCC closes

The top headline of today's Beijing News announces the closing ceremony of the 11th National Committee of the CPPCC. Jia Qinglin was elected as Chairman for the second term. The photo shows Jia bowing after being elected.

Other headlines include:

• China issued a 'Human Rights Report of the United States in 2007' on Thursday, in response to the Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for 2007 issued by the U.S. Department of State on Tuesday.

• In response to the recent hijacking scare, the General Administration of Civil Aviation has banned passengers from carrying any kind of liquid on domestic flights.

• The Shanghai Composite Index fell 2.43 percent to close at 3,971.26 points, the first close below the 4000 points in seven months.
