Front Page of the Day

Terrorism in the Global Times

Global Times, 20 July, 2007
Front Page of the Day is a daily review of the news on the front page of one Chinese newspaper, selected from a newsstand in Beijing's central business district.

Global Times is an international news daily run by the People's Daily agency. Compared to other, more serious newspapers, the hundreds of contributing journalists at GT tend to write softer articles about interesting stories from different countries.

Today's headline says that a Chinese motorcade was attacked by terrorists in Pakistan on 19 July. Thirty Pakistanis were killed, but all of the Chinese escaped from the disaster. It is said that this bomb attack is a part of radical Islamic counterattack against government.

The vertical headline down the left-hand side reads, "Russian general claims the US will attack Russia within ten years."

Global Times increased its publishing schedule to once a day last year. This past April, the People's Daily website stopped putting the complete text of the paper online. Selected articles are available on Sina.
