A grand perfomance for PLA's 80th anniversary

The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) was found on August 1, 1927. The top headline in today's People's Daily announces that a grand performance was staged in the Great Hall of the People last night to mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of the PLA. President Hu Jintao and seven other top leaders were in attendance; their names are listed just beneath the headline.

Other papers ran the same Xinhua story on their front page; the Beijing Youth Daily led with a more clearly punctuated headline.

A second article below the fold, "The Red Army Flag," presents an account of the performance from Xinhua reporters; the main article is brief program listing and an account of the dignitaries who attended.
