Beijing: American Chamber of Commerce seeks a Website Editor

Website Editor Job Description

The American Chamber of Commerce in China, based in Beijing, is seeking a Website Editor to join the Communications Department. This team is responsible for the corporate communications and public affairs activities of the chamber including: media relations, production of a suite of corporate publications, preparation of research reports and briefing materials, the publication of the monthly China Brief magazine, and management of the AmCham-China website.

The chamber’s dynamic website is where members and non-members go to learn about events, working group activities, services and becoming a member of the chamber. The website also has timely and relevant information for those doing business in China provided, in part, by chamber members. The Website Editor works closely with the events staff, working group leaders, art team and publications editor to ensure that the site is up-to-date, informative and accurate.

Primary Duties

  • Oversee development and posting of all AmCham-China website content, including event notices, news reports, sponsorship information, members-only content, photos, multi-media assets and information on the chamber’s online forum AmCham-China Daily
  • Edit and proofread articles for website, e-mail newsletters and magazine publication
  • Act as project manager for site upgrades and redesigns
  • Compile and monitor website traffic statistics
  • Edit photos and multi-media assets for use on site
  • Assist with management and development of content for China Brief magazine
  • Assist with maintaining quality standards for writing, editorial, design and publishing services

Selection Criteria

  • High level of competence and experience in website publishing, writing and editing
  • Ability to quickly master the use of proprietary publishing tools
  • High-level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proactive attitude towards implementing new technologies
  • Native English speaker is essential; Chinese language ability is plus, but is not required
  • Two or more years experience working as a web publisher with experience managing website redesigns
  • Proven capacity to work effectively both independently and cooperatively
  • Strong project management skills
  • Must show initiative, enthusiasm, flexibility, resourcefulness and capacity to think creatively
  • Familiarity with design software packages, specifically: Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Wordpress and Acrobat would be highly regarded
  • Interest in Chinese current affairs and business issues as they relate to American business
