Some magazines people are reading in Beijing:  FHM China, with Karen Mok (Mo Wenwei) on the cover. Mok is quarter-Persian, quarter-German on her father's side, half-Chinese and more or less from Hong Kong. She is the woman featured in Canon's current China campaign for their Ixus digital cameras. The August issue of FHM has many photos of Karen Mok, and quite a lot of advertising devoted to Ixus. 
This is Caijing, an investigative business and economic magazine that many people say is China's only magazine with a vision. The cover story is about Goldman Sachs China, a joint venture between the super kosher Wall Street investment house and Chinese financier Fang Fenglei.  Postcards from Tomorrow Square by James Fallows: James Fallows, China writer for The Atlantic magazine and popular blogger published his book Postcards from Tomorrow Square. Danwei runs an excerpt from his book of tales from China.
Raymond Zhou's X-Ray: Book excerpt: X-Ray: Examining the China Enigma by Raymond Zhou (周黎明). Zhou is a well-known Chinese film critic and culture writer, who has published many books in Chinese. The book, in English, is a collection of 99 essays written for the China Daily.

+ Asimov Published, Interviewed in Beijing (2005.03): Cover story from this week's Book Review section of The Beijing News announces the publication of a Chinese translation of Isaac Asimov's complete Foundation series. Yup, the Beijing News has scored a fictional interview with "I, Asimov". They've been taking similar liberties recently in their entertainment sections, captioning photographs of celebrities with made-up quotes. + Korean history doesn't fly on Chinese TV screens (2007.09): SARFT puts the kibbosh on Korean historical dramas. + Barmé on Ba Jin (2005.11): Geremie R. Barmé dissents from Ba Jin.
