Daily roundup: Condolences, property taxes and ATMsPosted by Banyue, July 27, 2006 1:51 PM
Today almost all Chinese media featured a report from Xinhua, containing condemnations from China on the Israeli bombardment of the UN post in Lebanon, and messages of condolences from Hu Jintao to the Chinese UN peacekeeper who was killed. Xinhua's English website has the story, with the Chinglish title President Hu condoles over death of Chinese UN observer.
China Youth Daily (中国青年报)published a special report about China's moon exploration project. Beijing Youth Daily led with a story about Beijing's new taxes on the sale of 'second hand' property (i.e. anything that is not a newly built development). On the internet, Xinhua discussed fees charged by banks when customers of other banks use their ATM machines. It seems that these fees may be reduced. Sports news was dominated by Inter Milan being awarded the 2005-06 Italian Football League championship after the previously declared winners Juventus has their title removed after match fixing was discovered: the story is on Sina. Sohu reported that China's first URL auction took place in Beijing.
