Bertelsmann moves on China book distribution market

The Financial Times reports:

Bertelsmann's DirectGroup said it had set up a joint venture with Liaoning Publishing Group worth Rmb30m ($3.6m), with the Chinese group controlling 51 per cent...

...Bertelsmann's new joint venture, Liaoning Bertelsmann Book Distribution, will be based in the north-eastern city of Shenyang and distribute books to retailers around the country...

...Bertelsmann already has a retail book-selling joint venture with Beijing 21st Century Book Chain, a national private book retailer, and a partnership with China Science and Technology Book Company, controlled by the Shanghai Press and Publication Administration.

Bertelsmann has been serious about the China market for much longer than any other Western media company, and their perserverance is starting to show results.
