The country's first literary magazine, People's Literature was born only 25 days after Chairman Mao declared the founding of the PRC. He also did the calligraphy for the title.
The magazine is not generally sold at newsstands, but it is available in Xinhua Bookstores and through the post office subscription system. It is published by the People's Literature Publishing House under the auspices of the Chinese Writers' Association.
In 2007, it published an unabridged long-form novel for the first time in its history: Mai Jia's spy thriller, The Sound of Wind (风声).
