Popular Cinema

The oldest movie magazine of the People's Republic of China, and very likely the first magazine with colored pages featuring foreign stars. It was Popular Cinema that pushed the limit of public tolerance girls' skirt lengths. For that reason alone, it should be regarded as a pioneer of China pop culture.

It has sponsored one of China's top movie prizes, the Baihua Award (百花, after the hundred flowers that Mao Zedong urged to blossom), since 1962.
