Danwei Quickie: NOFX in Beijing

NOFX is a seminal American punk band. Their music has been influencing the Chinese punk scene since it first started over ten years ago.

This is a quickie look at the pre-concert press conference before their very first show in China.

They'll play tonight April 13th at Star Live, with Hong Kong hardcore band King Lychee and Beijing pop-punks Recycle. The show starts at 8.30pm at Star Live (6425 5677).

looking forward to see the Sonic Youth.
just a question if taste.

一群浑球

Oh really... I haven't talk to my cousin in a while but he knows so many punks that are hardcore NOFX fans. All of them are probably hella happy right now...

All the punks in Beijing are all like, yeah NOFX!

My cousin is way into ragga and hip-hop. He is a little bit psytrance, that's because I'm way into psy-trance (plus some "jambands")...I listen mostly to hip-hop when I'm in Beijing. I don't mind blasting punk rock tho.

LOL @ asking them what they drink. There are probably straight edgers in Beijing but I haven't meet one... Funny har har har...

Interesting. It may just be me, but, is China where washed-up bands (and last year's fashions) come to die???

AjS

Yeah sure... I'm sure Britney Spears will be there soon. I for one welcome her with open arms and open hearts.

NOFX is a cool band tho. Is everything in life about trends and fashion? Yes?

I'm sure 99% of young Chinese don't give a damn about NOFX.
It's the land of Mandopop brah.

only in China will NOFX ever get a press conference

That's right brah, I forgot, no one in the states give a flying fuck about them.

They dissed the president, 一群浑球, yes! Dubya forever!!! They can die along with teh stupid dixie chicks.

Who's down to ride on them?!!??

A valid question, but the answer is that no, China has not stolen that role from Europe yet ;) If you look at the list of performers that have made appearances over here in the past couple of years you'll see a mix of types, including a few that are admittedly DIUSA (Dead In USA). But overall the line-up is too 杂 to see any definite pattern.

Damnit. I wish I would have known about this show. I would have come up from Nanjing to see it without hesitation. I'd like to see how many Baozi El Hefe can eat.

it's all about the music -- if you are just into the fad, it was never meant for you anyway.
