Net Nanny Follies

Sina, Sohu and Danwei blocked by Iranian Net Nanny

Liu Jie, a Danwei reader in Iran, sent us this screen grab showing what happened when he tried to access Danwei.org in Tehran: an announcement from Iran's Net Nanny saying that Danwei is blocked.

The net nannies of Iran and Saudi Arabia, unlike the sneaky old crone who polices China's Internet, tell you when something is blocked.

We do not know why Danwei is blocked in Iran: maybe it has something to do with this post.

Update: Liu Jie writes:

By the way, Danwei.org was blocked only a few days ago. The last time that I visited Danwei.org was, maybe, 3 days ago, and it worked.

Sina.com.cn, Sohu.com, and 163.com are also blocked, but not QQ.com, Baidu.com and Google.cn nor other major English search engines.

Update February 11: Danwei can now be accessed again on the Iranian Internet.

There are currently 2 Comments for Sina, Sohu and Danwei blocked by Iranian Net Nanny.

this blocking thing could be the next in thing
we just can't live in a too small world
can't we? orz

Is the blog by domain or by IP?
Normally it is by IP, which means the block is probably targeting another site on the same server.
