Chinese Olympic delegationPosted by Eric Mu, July 21, 2004 6:09 PM
China's 2004 Athens Olympic delegation is the focus of today's newspapers. The delegation consists of 407 athletes and 226 officials, who will participate in more than 200 events in 26 sports. This delegation is supposed to be the largest and youngest in Chinese history. (The pictured front page is from the Beijing Youth Daily) . Other news in the papers today: Beijing holds rescue drill for earthquake Public safety issues have been getting more attention lately after a string of little disasters earlier in the year. The rescue drill reported in today's papers was aimed at increasing local residents' awareness of the need to take precautions against natural calamities. You can find photos of the drills on Xinhua here. Also in the papers: Heavy rain in Beijing yesterday, but no traffic jams Beijing's weather is often the lead headline of local newspapers. Perhaps Danwei can offer some advice: The weather sucks. Get over it. |
