France is hot in China

The start of the "Year of France in China" was timed to coincide with French President Jacques Chirac's state visit, which started on Friday and runs through Tuesday. Today, Beijing's media are full of reports about the French events, including news and upcoming events:

- French President Jacques Chirac's China tour begins from Chengdu.

- French Impressionist paintings will be on display in the China National Art Gallery beginning October 10, featuring works of Monet, Manet, Renoir, and others.

- The exhibition of "100 Years of French Fashion" will start from October 10 at National Museum.

- Jean-Michel Jarre will hold a show of electronic music and lights in the Forbidden City.

- An exhibition on "The Life of Charles de Gaulle" will open at China Millennium Monument.

Other non-France news:

- Moving hukou (permanent resident permit) from one district of Beijing city to another only needs one application procedure now.

- Egyptian resort blasts kill at least 30.

- 58 beauties come to Beijing for Miss World finals.

The top front page is from The Beijing News, featuring Chirac shaking hands with a Chuanju Opera actor after watching his changing-face performance in Chengdu; the bottom page is an ad for the French Impressionist painting show from the People's Daily.
