SCMP promises "shocking allegations" involving a man named Chen

Edison Chen, whose sexual escapades made him an Internet sensation last year, gave testimony in a Vancouver courtroom yesterday for a Hong Kong trial over photos that were taken from a stolen laptop and posted online.

Here's how the South China Morning Post presented the news on its front page yesterday:

Unfortunately for celebrity gossip-mongers, the "shocking allegations" trumpeted in the headline below Edison's photo were made in a different Chen case, the corruption trial of former Taiwan president Chen Shui-bian.

Just a happy coincidence of page-layout, or a ploy to sell more papers?

I concede that the possibility of Edison Chen photos of Hong Kong starlets in various states of deshabille and post-coitus satisfaction have a greater attraction than yet more about Ah-Bian's dirt and his silly smile.

Ploy to sell more papers.

Actually, Chen's dirt would be just as attractive as his namesakes if only the dvd were made public (that is, if you find the going ons between President Ma Ying-jeou and another man named Chocolate (!) in any way titillating)

wait.

there are nude photos of Edison Chen available online?

how hot is that?

Dude, those are both ongoing stories.

Edison Chen has been making headlines:

Feb 26, 2009, Women's future important, not mine, says Edison Chen

Feb 24, 2009, Edison Chen identifies female entertainers

Feb 20, 2009, Defence seeks star witnesses (No “Edison Chen” in the headline, admittedly)

Feb 19, 2009, Canada hearing for Edison Chen case criticised

Chen Shui-bian has been making headlines on the same days:

Feb 26, 2009, Chen's legal team queries credibility of prosecution evidence

Feb 24, 2009, Chen Shui-bian alleges political persecution

Feb 20, 2009, Court clears activist over Chen rally

Then on Feb 25 there was a photo of Edison Chen on the front page and, immediately below it and seperated by one of those lines that separates the different articles in a newspaper for clarity, a story about Chen Shui-bian.

Considering the amount of coverage both Chen’s were getting it was almost inevitable.

Mystery solved.

Also, the lead par of the “Shocking allegations in Chen trail” started “Former Taiwanese president Chen Shui-bian made shocking allegations at his pretrial hearing yesterday …” hardly a decent attempt at pulling the wool over readers’ eyes.

Chen Shui-bian is usually referred to as “Chen” in the many, many stories the SCMP has published on the trial – a final point to help pull a few more Danwei readers away from the allure of tinfoil hattery.

i bet they did it on purpose
smug SCMP...

If you actually think Edison's scrawny body and his bird chest are hot then you've got some serious issues... or simply have no standards.

The only crimes committed in the whole Edison Chen scandal are against the art of photography and taste in home furnishings.

I have one shocking allegation here:

Edison Chen thought recycle bin = permanent deletion.

and that's why he got screwed.
