A man of 44 who is from Taiwan military hospital SARS prevention institute doing SARS research was infected with SARS in a laboratory on December 5. On December 7 he went to Singapore for an academic meeting. The SARS diagnosis was confirmed on December 17. Since there has not yet been a conclusive diagnostic test for SARS, how seriously do we need to take this?

Eight years ago in Deyang, Sichuan province, real estate tycoon Xiao Anning was put into prison without a proper trial by the local government after he was cheated by a local bank. His private property was taken away. In September 2001 his lawyer wrote to the Sichuan Provincial Committee secretary Zhou Yongkang. Zhou ordered an investigation. A year passed and nothing happened. The lawyer wrote to Zhou again. Zhou demanded another investigation. In November 2002 the court decided to hear the case again. Xiao is now appealing to the court again and apparently confident about his future.
