 The People's Daily April 23, 1989 Chinese blogger and homeless person rights activist Tiger Temple (老虎庙) posted this scan of a People's Daily front page from April 23, 1989. The top headline announces the start of official mourning for reform-minded Communist Party leader Hu Yаobаng whose death was one of the factors behind the demonstrations 20 years ago in Beijing. Discussion of those events are still taboo in mainland China's media. The blogger Tiger Temple commented, in translation: 20 years ago today, The People's Daily, organ of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, had a front page headline article about the the start of official mourning in Beijing for Hu Yаobаng. These regulations appear to be same the set of rules earlier reported on Danwei of which the stated intent is to clear up corrupt journalistic practices. + Asimov Published, Interviewed in Beijing (2005.03): Cover story from this week's Book Review section of The Beijing News announces the publication of a Chinese translation of Isaac Asimov's complete Foundation series. Yup, the Beijing News has scored a fictional interview with "I, Asimov". They've been taking similar liberties recently in their entertainment sections, captioning photographs of celebrities with made-up quotes.
