Something in the airPosted by Jeremy Goldkorn on Thursday, November 10, 2005 at 9:53 PM
There's something in the air in Beijing, and it does not appear to be pollution. Take a look at That's Beijing's website Personals section: Open minded couples Swing on in We are an attractive, mixed Chinese/western thirty something couple that enjoy an open relationship. We are looking for other open minded couples to hang out with, for friendship and anything else fun that may develop from that. Or how about this: Looking for a third wheel We are a foreign couple, an American man (29) and European woman (27), looking for a bi-sexual woman with who we can experiment and play. Ahem. next please: We are a nice goodlooking couple, Barry is a tall blue eyed westerner and Coco is a gorgeous chinese woman, we live very comfortable in Beijing. Hmm. Next! meeting other open minded people we are an attractive western couple looking to meet other couples for dinner/drinks and some adult fun. Hello? Couple seeks Woman We are a mixed couple (Foreign boy, Chinese girl) and are looking for an atractive, honest, adventurous woman with a strong erotic drive to join us in our bedroom adventures. Erm, what's that? seeking similar couples... And right there, among all the sinful requests in the 'Seeking Other' department, from which the above ads were culled, are real estate ads, serious requests from serious Chinese ladies looking for female friends, and some guy who appears to post a new message like the below every day: |

+ Korean history doesn't fly on Chinese TV screens (2007.09): SARFT puts the kibbosh on Korean historical dramas. + Religion and government in an uneasy mix (2008.03): Phoenix Weekly (凤凰周刊) article from October, 2007, on government influence on religious practice in Tibet. + David Moser on Mao impersonators (2004.10): I first became aware of this phenomenon in 1992 when I turned on a Beijing TV variety show and was jolted by the sight of "Mao Zedong" and "Zhou Enlai" playing a game of ping pong. They both gave short, rousing speeches, and then were reverently interviewed by the emcee, who thanked them profusely for taking time off from their governmental duties to appear on the show.
