Qiao Qiao and girlfriend

According to Qiao Qiao ( 乔乔), China's first out lesbian singer, some of them are.

The singer of "Ai Bu Fen" (爱不分), a mandopop tune of same sex love, and owner of Beijing's longest-running lesbian night, Feng Ba, told The Southern Metropolis Weekly that not only does she have a girlfriend but that some of the Supergirls are also into girls.

"They know who they are," she said, but did not give names.

The headline from the interview reads:

"Qiao Qiao comes out of the closet and outs several Supergirls"

Qiao Qiao's revelations were followed by a flurry of blogs posting intimate shots of Supergirl contender Xu Fei ( 许飞) with another girl. Xu, visibly upset and reportedly furious about the postings, was voted out of the competition last Friday. "Maybe, now is a good time for you to go," said one of the judges.

Dinah! Nice piece, grrrl. C enjoyed it, too.

shock horror - what revelations. can't wait for tomorrow's big scoop - the pope is actually a catholic. maybe.

can't wait to see the launch of Super Boys next year!! there are surely gonna be lots of boys who can hit the high notes like Mariah Carey does and dress like Britney Spears~~~

Sorry to get into this so late, but I have to disagree with Justin on this one. This is basically dreck.

The last two sentences are the worst part of the article. The author fails to demonstrate that the reason Xu Fei was voted out of the competition was because of anything mentioned previously.

Similarly, the quote by one of the judges is taken out of context. The author offers nothing but innuendo. This isn't news. The article does little more than insinuate. That might be ok for the Weekly World News, but if Danwei wants to be considered a credible news source, it should do better.

are u still in Hk? get in touch Dinah

Books on China
Diamond Hill by Feng Chi-shun: Feng's memoir Diamond Hill describes an era of gambling and gangsters, Suzie Wong and squatter villages, fires and food stalls, and the Kowloon Walled City and its white powder. "A time when people were poor, but life was rich," he says. The world that he grew up in no longer exists, but his book - the first ever on the Diamond Hill refugee settlement, in either Chinese or English - offers a candid picture of what life was like for most Hong Kong residents in the 1950s.
William A. Callahan's China: The Pessoptimist Nation: China: The Pessoptimist Nation shows how the heart of Chinese foreign policy is not a security dilemma, but an identity dilemma. Through a careful analysis of how Chinese people understand their new place in the world, the book charts how Chinese identity emerges through the interplay of positive and negative feelings in a dynamic that intertwines China's domestic and international politics.
The WTO ruling: a half victory at best: In August 2009, a World Trade Organization panel ruled against China's system of monopoly control over entertainment products. Was this the victory supporters hailed as the dawn of a new day for American and global entertainment companies in the China market?
